The Elves Made the Paper

I submitted my essay on the elves to The Columbus Dispatch and they published it!

Click here to read it. Not much changed from the version posted on this blog, but there's a nice picture of me in a suit. Well, not really a full suit. Actually, just a coat and tie. When my wife took that picture I had on a pair of running shorts. I only needed the head shot and I hate getting dressed up.

Very cool, sir. And I do believe that's what most columnists do for headshots not taken in the newsroom. Or those taken in the newsroom for that matter.

Either way, I like it.

I clean up good. You can blame that on my wife. If I had my druthers I'd be unshaven and clad in sweatpants and a t-shirt 24x7.

I concur with reviews on the pic! Good work, Hot One!

This is absolutely the cutest Christmas story/tradition ever. I'm sure that more than one reader will implement elf visitation into their holiday festivities. Thanks to you, homeless elves the world over will be cozy and comfortable at Christmas.

Good work!

This sounds like a picture book idea - two young boys - two elves creating mischief....maybe the boys get all parental on the elves...

Congratulations on publication!
You and your wife are great parents.

This is so cool! You're the local celebrity now!

For the record, I hardly ever look like that. When I do, it's either because of a sales presentation for work or a wedding.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and support, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (and whatever other seasonal holidays you celebrate / observe this time of year...).

PS I've had a couple neighbors ask for my autograph. That rocks. It was in jest, but it still rocks.

Congrats Rick! When you do find them elves ... tell them my kids want to play guitar hero with them too! :) Merry Christmas to you and the family.

Dave- Angie found the elves last year. She heard about them from a friend. I know some other people that have an 'elf on a shelf' but those are not as active as the elves that visit us...they only move at night. Ours can disappear / reappear anytime through the day!
