Past Lives

The other day, we were all driving in the car and my younger son said, with absolute deadpan delivery: "I really enjoyed my past life as an alien."

Tough not to burst into laughter at his matter-of-fact tone of voice, so of course that's what the rest of us did.

"What? I did," he insisted.

I am really enjoying this life as that boy's father ;-)

You should have told him he's still an alien. Adopted, of course ;)...

Based on how serious he was when he told us this, I don't think that would phase him!

Your son may know my 4-yo daughter then.;) She always tells us about the planet she lived on before she "came here." When my son was 3, he told me I was the best mom he ever had. I laughed and said I was the only one he ever had, and he got serious and said that he'd a lot of moms before, and that his last mom was really mean to him. You never know...

Congrats on your book by the way...I've been meaning to email you. :)

Haha, that is absolutely hilarious. I was babysitting my cousin - he was four at the time - and a commercial for Midol came on. "I used to take that before, when I was a woman," he informed me, matter-of-fact.

Which was so funny, until he told me that then the monsters came and killed his husband and children, and as I was 12, I totally freaked out. :D Kids. Gotta love 'em.

Just read Kristi's comment - reminded me of a friend of mine who used to talk about when she was Mrs. Brown - again, she was four at the time, and when I heard the story she was much older and had no recollection of talking about the days before, when she was Mrs. Brown.

I'm with you - I do believe there is more to this universe than we are currently aware.

It would be cool to see the chain of thoughts that led to that statement.

Scott- I never thought of it from that perspective, but you're right...was it having octopus arms, having to eat candy for nutrition, being able to fly, breathe underwater, etc...

I'm sure whatever his reason, it was good.

Fantastic, he sounds like a budding comedian. I love it when our kids surprise us....and start growing up and acting so clever! : )

He definitely has a sense of humor and knows how to be cute. Thing is, I'm pretty sure he was being serious this time...which make it that much funnier!
