Are you freaking insane????

Not you, dear reader. That's actually a rhetorical questions directed at myself. Although if you are insane, I applaud myself for pointing it out to you.

The answer, for me at least, seems to be an unfortunate yes. You see, my wife and I signed up to run a half marathon in May. On May 2, to be exact. Which happens to be our 10 year anniversary.

Tin is supposed to be the gift for a 10 year anniversary. That seems inherently lame (although it is recyclable, so maybe we'll get back to it in a few years). We decided to ditch it, opting instead for pain and sweat.

What does this have to do with today?
Everything.

Today I have to run 8 miles for training.

I don't mind running, the weather is nice today, I have a new battery in my iPod so it should go silent after mile 4. But holy crap, 8 miles is a long way to run, and I am not mentally prepared for it. I've never run that far before, not even when being chased. I have to psyche myself up for it. Make it right. Make it real. Here goes...

8 Mile was a movie starring Eminem. And M&M's are candy. And candy is a treat, like cake. So running 8 miles is a piece of cake.

OK, good. I have no clue what I'll do next week, when I have to run 10 miles, but I think I'm covered for today.

I LOVE your thought process. From 8 miles to a piece of cake! NICE.

As for the battery dying at 4miles...have you considered keeping a spare battery in your shorts? lol. Or strapped to the ipod with a piece of tape? ;)

My sis (Little Ms. J who is also part of our "Purple J" or "J Clo" nickname debate) just finished running a half marathon! She LOVED it. I was considering a 10k in April but with school I had to decline.

I'm sure it will be the best anniversary gift ever!

I'm pretty sure I could have reached Kevin Bacon in two more steps. I was already into the food category, and bacon is a food...

I just put new batteries in our iPods. Even more complicated than changing batteries in a child's toy, which usually requires a single screwdriver. Still not as bad as extracting a child's toy from its packaging, though. That requires a blowtorch.

Oh my you could write a whole blog on removing children's toys. I bought a toy once that was like $5 and I had to remove four screws that probably cost more than the toy itself in order to pull the toy from the package! Good grief! Then all those wires that are impossible to cut, twist, or rip from the box!

Not to mention staples, bubble wrap with no seam, styrofoam that apparently is bigger than the box it's stuffed into. And of course it comes with C batteries or something they rarely carry at the store so you have to "borrow" from another toy because you neglected to read it!

My house looks like a tornado hit by the time I free the toy and then they're too busy playin' with the damn box to notice it!

Maybe we need to consider contracting toy packaging companies for prisons and detention centers. We wouldn't need all that steele and concrete which probably costs way more money!

Sorry that was a little long winded.

Good luck on the run and remember, you can always finish with a walk.

Wow, that is far! I've been able to run 5 miles before, but 8? Wow. Good luck!

I hope we get another post from you. If not, we'll assume the worst. :) I totally admire you. Running is one of the hardest things for me to do. I spent a year in college just getting to the place where I could run three miles a couple times a week. I've since decided that my body is made for other movements. ANY movements other than running.
